From karting to racing Mighty Minis, Tom Moseley recently switched to competing in the highly popular Time Attack series. While a classic Mini wouldn’t be everyone’s first weapon of choice, it seems his 1293cc lightweight screamer has already managed to upset a few drivers who are piloting far more exotic machinery! Not unlike many of the great racing drivers, 31-year-old Tom began his competitive driving career in karting at a young age, soon discovering he had a natural talent behind the wheel. The progression towards racing full-sized cars began around fifteen years ago when both Tom and his ever-supportive dad, Paul. were looking for an entry route into a form of affordable motorsport. “There are so many options out there, it’s a minefield,” Tom explains. “After months of research, we decided to enter the BRSCC Mighty Minis Championship.” The sale of Tom’s competitive kart helped fund a ready-to-race Mighty Minis Cooper and with the backing and support of Paul along with two talented mechanics, Lee and Chris Hallsworth, Tom went on to race in his chosen series for the following four years. “I managed to edge my way up the grid year on year, but never quite reached a podium finish,” he says. By that final year of 2012 racing Mighty Minis, the constant repairs, engine rebuilds and upgrades had eaten their way into the Moseley racing budget. eventually forcing a quick sale of their highly developed car, resulting in a massive blow for everyone involved. “I stopped racing for eight years,” says mini 47.
Tom has shown a great passion for motorsports from a young age, getting into go-karting as a child. His father, Paul, has supported him along this journey, upgrading the go-kart to a Might Mini, with a much bigger engine. This has led to him racing in the BRSCC Might Mini Championship with the help of mechanics Lee and Chris Hallsworth.
